Junior coaching season 2026
Bunbury and Districts Badminton Association is pleased to announce details of our 2026 Junior coaching season.
This year, our volunteer coaching team will be Rosemary Smith, Robert Italiano and Bill Nimmo, with volunteer assistance from Mark Dhu and Joel Gragasin.
Rosemary is a primary teacher of more than 40 years’ experience who has achieved a number of coaching/assessment qualifications that include ShuttleTime coach, ShuttleTime coach trainer, Foundation level coach and a past ATAR assessor for Badminton WA. Rosemary is also a Life Member of our Association.
The evergreen Robert has been a junior coach for more than 50 years, a Life Member of our Association, past President and has a wealth of knowledge coaching players - young and not so young - to achieve new badminton skills and improve on their existing ones. He is one of the founding members of our Association and is most often accompanied by his effervescent sidekick and wife, Minnie, also a Life Member of our Association.
Bill moved to Bunbury in 2024 after decades of mentoring badminton players at his former club in Kalgoorlie. He is a qualified ShuttleTime coach and is passionate about passing on his love of the game to young and young at heart.
Both Mark and Joel are qualified ShuttleTime coaches and are long time players and lovers of the game.
All of our coaching team have current Working with Children certification.
We also hope to rely on some volunteer parents to assist so please don’t be shy in offering to help.
Dates for the commencement of our 2026 coaching season are as follows:
"Come and Try/Registration"-Wednesday 25th March 2026 from 6-7.30pm.
"Come and Try/Registration" Wednesday 1st April 2026 from 6-7.30pm.
First coaching night-Wednesday 22nd April 2026 from 6-7.30pm.
There are no coaching sessions during the school holidays in April and July.
All junior players are to be registered members by the 22nd April 2026. Membership for the 2026/27 year is now open.
- Junior membership for 2026 is $160 for the membership year-1st April 2026 to 31st March 2027.
Membership includes:
· Weekly coaching during school terms two and three.
· A windup tournament (or windup event depending on numbers) at the end of the coaching season.
· Affiliation with Badminton Australia through our affiliation with Badminton WA with associated benefits.
· Free weekly junior social sessions for the bulk of the membership year outside of the coaching season (subject to suitably qualified staff available to supervise)
· Free entry to country and Metro team tournaments if selected to represent Bunbury.
We look forward to welcoming past junior members as well as new players to our 2026 junior season.

Junior social sessions 2026
Our junior social sessions will be commencing on Wednesday the 4th February 2026. This session, from 6-7.30pm, is an opportunity for young players to come along and play social games under the supervision of one or more of our volunteer junior coaches. Junior members are encouraged to join in with their parents and junior friends.
These social sessions are the ideal lead-in to our coaching season- for new players to come and try badminton. Racquets are available to loan and also to buy from our Badminton Shop within the Centre. Racquet prices start at $40.
Cost of each session is $5 for parents and junior guests, and free for junior and parent members.
Commencement details of our coaching season will be announced shortly.

Junior social sessions 2025
Just a reminder to parents that, at the conclusion of the coaching season, our junior social sessions will run each Wednesday evening from 6-7.30pm, commencing in late October 2025. Junior members play for free, with friends and parents welcome to play for a nominal fee of $5.
